Visa-Exempt Entry


Countries eligible for Visa-exempt entry:

1. Nationals of the following countries are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 90 days: Albania, Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Eswatini*, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Holy See, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan*, Kosovo, Republic of Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Marshall Island*, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia*(effective until March 31, 2025), Norway, Palau, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tuvalu*, United Kingdom, and United States of America.

2. Nationals of the following countries are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 30 days: Belize*, Malaysia, Nauru, Saint Kitts and Nevis*, Saint Lucia*, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Singapore.

3. Nationals of Nicaragua, except those holding diplomatic or official/service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 90 days.

4. Nationals of Honduras*, except those holding diplomatic or official/service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 90 days.

5. Nationals of Dominican Republic, except those holding diplomatic or official/service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 30 days.

6. Nationals of the Kingdom of Thailand (effective until July 31, 2025), except those holding diplomatic or official/service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 14 days.

7. Nationals of Brunei (effective until July 31, 2025), except those holding diplomatic or official/ service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 14 days. In addition, those holding a Brunei Certificate of Identity are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 14 days.

8. Nationals of the Philippines (effective until July 31, 2025), except those holding diplomatic or official/service passports, are eligible for the visa-exemption program, with a duration of stay of up to 14 days.

Requirements

1. A passport with remaining validity of at least six months as of the date of entry
·Visa-exempt entry only applies to foreign visitors holding formal passports (i.e., ordinary, official/service and diplomatic passports). Those holding emergency, temporary, or other informal passports or travel documents are ineligible, with the exception of those holding a Brunei Certificate of Identity.
·Holders of Belize, Eswatini, Nauru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Tuvalu passports with place of birth recorded on the passport data page as Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, the People's Republic of China, Syria, and Yemen are ineligible for the visa exemption. Holders of Honduran passports with place of birth recorded on the passport data page as the People's Republic of China are also ineligible for the visa exemption.
·A national of the Republic of the Marshall Islands shall mean any person who holds the nationality of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and is confined to the following categories:(1) a person who acquired the citizenship of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands at birth before the effective date of the Constitution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and has become and remains a citizen of the Republic of the Marshall Islands; or (2) a person who acquired the citizenship of the Republic of the Marshall Islands at birth, on or after the effective date of the Constitution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
·USA nationals who possess a passport, including an emergency passport, valid for the intended period of stay are eligible for visa-exempt entry. ·Japan nationals who possess a passport valid for the intended period of stay are eligible for visa-exempt entry.
·Holders of emergency or temporary passport, except those from the United States of America, should apply for a visa at an ROC overseas mission, or a landing visa after arriving in the ROC.

2. A confirmed return air/sea ticket or air/sea ticket and a visa for the next destination, and a confirmed seat reservation for departure flight. 3. Not determined by immigration officers at ports of entry in the ROC to be otherwise ineligible.

4. Holders of Brunei, Philippines and Thailand passports must have proof of accommodation (hotel) booking, host/sponsor's contact information and sufficient travel funds.

5. Brunei, Philippines and Thailand vessel/aircraft crew members or service personnel intending to board to report for duty are ineligible for the visa-exempt entry.

Duration of stay

1. The duration of stay starts from the day after arrival and is not extendable. Foreign visitors must depart by the end of the said duration. Please click here for information on penalties for overstay.

2. Visa-exempt entry cannot be converted to visa-based stay, unless any of the following applies:
·In the event of situations that prevent them from leaving the ROC, such as severe acute illness, natural disaster, or another force majeure.
·White-collar professionals who have obtained (i) a work permit granted for a period under 6 months within their permitted duration of stay, or (ii) a work permit for fulfilling contract purpose issued before or within 30 days of their entry (Brunei, North Macedonia, Philippines and Thailand are not included) may apply for a work visa.
*All applications shall be submitted within 8 working days before their permitted duration of stay expires.
*In accordance with National Immigration Agency (NIA) regulations, those foreigners who come to Taiwan to engage in contracting work for more than 6 months, enter Taiwan under a visa-exemption program, and plan to apply for an alien residence certificate from the Immigration Agency, Ministry of the Interior, are required to simultaneously submit applications for visitor and resident visas to this Bureau or the Central, Southern, Eastern, and Yunjianan Offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
*Those foreigners who obtain work permits (exclude fulfilling contract purpose) granted for a period over 6 months shall apply for residency directly to the National Immigration Agency in accordance with the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals.
·Canadian and UK passport holders are eligible for the visa-exemption program with a duration of stay of 90 days which is extendable up to 180 days, please refer to the Notice for British & Canadian Passport Holders Who Enter Taiwan Visa-Free and Apply for an Extension of Stay.

3. The visa-exemption trial program for nationals of Russia expired (effective until July 31, 2022). (Extension of the trial program is under evaluation.)

Landing Visas


Countries eligible for Landing Visas

1. Holders of Turkish passport with remaining validity of more than six months.
2. Holders of emergency or temporary passports with remaining validity of more than six months for nationals of those countries (except for US) eligible for visa-exempt entry.

Requirements
1. Passports must be valid for at least six months and have blank pages.
2. Confirmed return air/sea ticket or air/sea ticket and visa for the next destination, and confirmed seat reservation for departure.
3. Completed application form with two photos.
4. Visa fee of NT$ 1,600 (citizens of countries with reciprocal agreements shall be issued visas free of charge) plus a handling fee of NT$ 800. No fee will be charged for Turkish citizens.
5. No criminal record or not prohibited by the local authorities.

Duration of stay
1. The 30-day duration of stay starts from the next day of arrival and is not extendable.
2. The above-said landing visa cannot be converted to visitor or resident visa under normal circumstances.

Procedures for Nationals of the Designated Countries Applying for Visitor Visas to the Republic of China (R.O.C.)


Nationals from the following countries applying for visitor visas to the R.O.C. must fulfill the procedure of this section:

Nationals of the designated countries may apply for the R.O.C. visitor visas for the following purposes:
·Invited by the Republic of China (R.O.C.) government agencies on official missions. ·Participating in international meetings or activities for the purposes of religious, athletic, or cultural exchange, which are held by the organizations set up in the R.O.C.
·Visiting dependents with legal residence status in the R.O.C., including spouse, family members of lineal relationship, or siblings.
·Conducting economic or commercial businesses (including accompanied spouse and children) (For nationals of Bhutan and Sri Lanka applying for business visas, the overseas missions of the R.O.C. will not request a Guarantee of Sponsorship from the applicant’s sponsor in Taiwan.)
·Crew members intending to come to the R.O.C. to report for duty.
·Medical treatment.

Nationals from the following countries applying for visitor visas to the R.O.C. must submit their application at the designated overseas missions:
·Nepal (Only at Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in New Delhi)
·India (Identity Certificate) (Only at Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in NewDelhi)
·Nigeria (Only at the Taipei Trade Office in the Federal Republic of Nigeria)
·Ghana (Only at the Taipei Trade Office in the Federal Republic of Nigeria)

eVisa


Eligibility

1. Nationals of the following countries are eligible for an eVisa when they meet relevant criteria: Bahrain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Colombia*, Dominica, Ecuador, Kuwait, Mauritius, Montenegro, Oman, Panama, Peru, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Solomon Islands, Türkiye, United Arab Emirates.
Note: Colombian passport holders must provide a valid visa or resident certificate issued by a Schengen country or a valid resident certificate or visa valid for more than 180 days issued by the United States.

2. Furthermore, foreign nationals who have been invited to attend international conferences, sporting events, trade fairs or other activities in Taiwan—organized, co-organized, or sponsored by central government agencies—are also eligible for an eVisa. Such foreign nationals must obtain an E-Code from the host organization in Taiwan (n.b., not the Bureau of Consular Affairs) prior to submitting an online application for an eVisa. Nationals of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are only eligible for an eVisa when participating in sporting events in Taiwan.

3. In accordance with the Project for Simplifying Visa Regulations for High-end Group Tourists from Southeast Asian Countries, group tourists from Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam visiting with travel agencies designated by the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, are eligible for an eVisa.

4. Nationals of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka visiting for business purposes at the recommendation of overseas offices of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council are eligible for an eVisa.

5. Foreign nationals who intend to travel to Taiwan but are not eligible for an eVisa must fill in a form under General Visa Applications on the website of the Bureau of Consular Affairs and submit this application form to an ROC overseas mission.

Requirements & Procedures
1. eVisa applicants must possess an ordinary, official, or diplomatic passport with validity of at least six months as of the date of intended entry into Taiwan.

2. To obtain an eVisa, applicants must submit relevant personal information and pay the required fee by credit card (Visa or MasterCard) online. ROC overseas missions may, depending on the applicant’s nationality and purpose of visit, request through email that the applicant submit additional documents within a specific timeframe. If these documents are not submitted by the given deadline, the application may be denied.

3. When an eVisa application has been approved, the applicant will receive a notice by email containing a webpage link to download and print the eVisa. The eVisa holder is required to present a paper copy of the eVisa at the immigration checkpoint for verification by the National Immigration Agency upon arrival in Taiwan. However, immigration officers at ports of entry in Taiwan have the right to deny entry to eVisa holders without providing further explanation.

Purposes of Visit
1. Please note that eVisas are only granted for tourism and business purposes, as well as for visiting relatives and attending international conferences or sporting events in Taiwan. If you intend to travel to Taiwan for other purposes – such as employment, study, residence with family, or Mandarin language courses – you must submit an application for a suitable type of visa at an ROC overseas mission.

2. The validity of an eVisa is three months starting from the issue date. The eVisa is a single-entry visa, and the maximum duration of stay in Taiwan is 30 days, which cannot be extended and converted to other types of visas.
